It’s a shocking statistic: nearly 200,000 children, families and seniors in Central Virginia struggle with hunger each day. Ridgefield Vision Center wants to help solve this problem by donating food, so we’re reaching out to our best asset: our patients. To thank you for contributing to this great cause, we’re offering the chance to win a pair of designer sunglasses.

During our food drive, Oct. 1 – Nov. 17, when you donate a non-perishable food item in our office, we’ll enter your name in a drawing to win a pair of designer sunglasses from Kate Spade or Hugo Boss. The drawing will take place at the end of the food drive.

All of the food items donated will go to FeedMore, a hunger-relief organization dedicated to providing our Central Virginia neighbors with nourishing, healthy meals to end their hunger.

FeedMore also provides senior citizens and those who are homebound with nutritious meals and services to support their health and independence.

In 2016, FeedMore distributed a whopping 19.2 million meals through its network of partner agencies and programs that include hot meals for more than 3,000 kids each weekday through its Kids Cafe program, delivery of more than 310,000 meals over the weekends for students through its BackPack program, and in the summer when school is out, they have a Summer Food Service Program.

FeedMore helps seniors in our community as the local affiliate of the national Meals on Wheels program – delivering more than 293,000 fresh and emergency meals to more than 1,500 homebound and disabled seniors in our community.

FeedMore needs the following items for its food pantry:

  • Peanut butter
  • Canned chicken or tuna
  • Low-sodium vegetables
  • Fruits packed in juice
  • Spaghetti sauce (plastic jar – no glass, please)
  • Canned or dry beans
  • Hot and cold cereal
  • Whole grain snacks

We look forward to filling our donation box again and again this season. Please enter early and often for your chance to win Kate Spade or Hugo Boss sunglasses. Think how great you’ll look and feel in sunglasses that you won as a result of doing a good deed and helping to feed Central Virginia’s less fortunate families!
